Just added another reason why I like this thing: changing the oil is a breeze. The pan isn’t set far back at all, and the filter is pretty far forward with no obstructions. I can probably change it without jacking it up, but I prefer elbow room if I can get it.
The drain plug gave me a little backsass, but it was no match for these (lack of) guns right here. The filter was easily removed even with a hand drenched in oil.
The oil was looking a little dirty after 3,500 miles, so I’m glad I was proactive this time. I will be monitoring it closely henceforth and sticking with 3k-3.5k intervals because that’s how I’ve done all the other vehicles under my care.
The pickup is also due for an oil change... but it’s really cold and I’m tired ~_~

And Toyota reliability.
Car Guys say 5K is often enough. And have you considered switching it to Mobil 1? 300D, CRX Si, ‘97 SHO all ran on it - no engine issues ever. 10K intervals there, I believe (still, I probably did 5).

I don’t necessarily have any hard facts backing my habits — I’ve been using Castrol in all my cars for the last 4 years, and I go for shorter intervals than sometimes recommended (3+k vs 5k) because I’m used to owning high mileage cars, and because my wife and I have opposite work schedules. So if I put off a change for “tomorrow,” it may be 4 days or more before the next time I have access to her vehicle at a reasonable hour. And she drives a lot.

Quick, Marty! We have to go back in time! It’s your oil, Marty! Something’s gotta be done about your oil!

I’m gonna be making the same mistake on my checks, I just know it...

Also, if you put 3,500 miles on the car every 2 years, you should change it at one. Also, where you live can make a difference. Beijing? A bit more often. SigOther came back from a trip there with pollution on her white blouses where they weren’t covered by her jacket. Took them to the Chinese laundry downstairs - they asked what the stains were. They were unsurprised by the answer.
